 LAZY K
THE SOUND: A FUNK ROCK, HIP-HOP, PSYCHEDELIC SOUL JAM
Lazy K is the brainchild of Basehead guitarist Keith Lofton. Heralded as either hip-hop visionaries or slacker wiseguys, Basehead were one of the most acclaimed bands to emerge from the burgeoning new rap scene.
Equal parts Pavement and Public Enemy, they mixed funk, soul, hip-hop, and alternative rock into three albums of unparalleled lo-fi genius. They toured with the Beastie Boys and Butthole Surfers and were featured on one of the early Lollapalooza road shows and were so far ahead of their time it's not even funny.
With Life in One Day, Lazy K. manages to sustain what Pulse! defined as a "stoned, alienated, horny cynicism" but manages to push the groove even further into the song oriented funk realm of fellow iconoclasts like P-Funk, Prince, and De La Soul. Cosmic R & B with wit, style, and substance.
